ABOUT

After graduating from the Conservatory of Utrecht (bachelor, cum laude) and the Royal Conservatory of The Hague (master), Amsterdam based pianist Erik Verwey (1987) worked for many years as a (film) composer and accompanist for various award winning theatre and cabaret programs in the Netherlands (including Louise Korthals and Dolf Jansen). These theatre tours have given him the necessary composing experience.

Erik felt a need to compose and perform his own music for his own trio. He founded the Erik Verwey Trio, a dynamic jazz piano trio from Amsterdam. The sound of the trio is a mixture of fresh, rhythmic playing with traditional jazz ingredients and a lot of influences from classical music, film scores and songs. In 2020 their debut album People Flow was released and received rave international reviews.

Drummer Daniel van Dalen, known from Fuse (house band TV program Podium Witteman) has been indispensable to this trio for over many years. In recent years, double bassist Hendrik Mūller (known from the Daahoud Salim Quartet, among others) has effortlessly joined in, thus creating the trio. In 2019, the trio played at the Bali jazz festival and, following the release of the successful People Flow, Erik toured the Netherlands and internationally with his trio in ’21, ’22 and ’23.

In 2023, the trio released their second album, About a Home, with renowed chromatic harmonicaplayer Hermine Deurloo. The album consists of 10 original pieces and also received rave reviews.

Currently, Erik, the Trio and Hermine are touring and performing the music of About a Home.
